We were honoured to welcome back our 1590 Society members for an evening celebrating their exceptional support. Their generosity is helping to fund transformational bursaries, providing life-changing educational opportunities to students who may not have otherwise had access to a QEH education.
We were honoured to welcome members of the 1590 Society back to QEH for a special evening celebrating the transformational impact of philanthropy.
The event brought together some of the school’s most committed supporters — individuals whose exceptional generosity is opening doors for talented young people who may not otherwise have the opportunity to benefit from a QEH education.
A Legacy of Philanthropy
Founded in 1590 through the charitable bequest of John Carr to educate 12 orphaned boys, QEH has philanthropy at its very foundation. That same spirit continues today through the 1590 Society — named in honour of our founding year — which recognises those who have pledged £159,000 or more to support life-changing bursaries.
A Lasting Tribute
During the evening, we were proud to unveil our new honours board on the Head’s Landing. This permanent installation recognises and celebrates those who have made a 1590 Society-level commitment. It stands as a visible testament to the power of giving — and a shared belief that every child, regardless of background, deserves access to an exceptional education.
Changing Lives Through Education
Every penny donated by members of the 1590 Society goes directly towards bursaries — supporting pupils who have the ability and ambition to thrive at QEH, but not the means. From September 2025, one in three pupils receiving means-tested support will hold a transformational bursary covering 75% or more of their fees.
These awards do more than ease financial burden — they transform lives. They offer access to outstanding teaching, pastoral care, co-curricular opportunities, and a community that inspires confidence, ambition, and belonging.
Every Gift Matters
Whether you give a little or a lot, every contribution plays a part. Regular giving starts from just £15.90 a month — and together, we are building a future where more young people can benefit from all that a QEH education has to offer.
To all of our 1590 Society members: thank you. Your commitment is not only transforming individual lives — it is shaping a more equitable future for QEH, and for the generations of pupils yet to come.
