201022 QEH Open Mic 9400

The QEH Theatre saw fantastic music and drama performances last week.

On Wednesday, the Year 11 drama GCSE group staged their devised performance examination. Pupils are required to create an original piece of theatre in a particular style. Both groups choose to use the ideas of Brecht who used techniques designed to challenge the audience and encourage a questioning approach.

What Happened That Evening? was a piece about domestic abuse and how the labels that we give people can affect how others view them.  In Simon, the issue of corruption was explored through the use of humour and satire. These pieces were insightful and entertaining and showed a range of vocal and physical skills.

The following evening, after a three year hiatus, we were delighted to welcome the return of Open Mic Night. This event offers an opportunity for our pop, rock and jazz musicians to take to the stage and, as always, they did not disappoint!

The audience gave the musicians a warm and appreciative reception as pupils from Years 7 to 13 were represented, performing solo and in bands. It was fantastic to have so many first time performers in the programme including our first ever solo female singers!

QEH pupils enjoyed an unforgettable cricket tour in Cape Town, competing fiercely, exploring iconic sights, and spotting wildlife at Aquila.

Our pupils have excelled in this year’s national Intermediate Maths Challenge.

As well as being Head of Religion and Philosophy, Zak leads our digital vision. He was instrumental in developing our excellent online learning offering during lockdown, much to the relief of our parents, and is now leading the roll out of our school device programme.

Year 9 rise to the Challenge

On Monday, Year 7 were finally able to go on their long awaited trip to Margam Park!

QEH provides a safe, nurturing environment where each pupil is treated as an individual.  The results are confident young men who truly believe in themselves.  Freddie now has a passion for learning and the confidence to apply it which is due to the school, its understanding of boys and its fantastic staff.
