We are excited to announce a new learning environment for students studying Design and Technology at QEH. This comprises a refitted workshop and a new dedicated computer-aided design studio. This now allows us to deliver a Design and Technology curriculum into the Sixth Form via our Product Design A Level, which our first cohort of Year 12 students started in September.

This development has also allowed QEH to expand the learning opportunities within DT, and students now have access to stereolithography 3D printing alongside FDM 3D printing. We have added to our roster of established processes, such as laser cutting, with some new machines. We can now teach students metal casting and turning, as well as providing a wider range of plastic and woodworking methods, giving students greater manufacturing options when completing coursework.

Design and Technology is taught in small groups to all pupils from Year 7 and it is also a popular choice for GCSE.

Mr. Holmes, the Head of Design and Technology at QEH commented on his vision for the department:

“Everything in our built environment has been designed by somebody to do something. Our goal is to develop a modern curriculum that inspires the designers and engineers of the future. We are committed to preparing students so they are ready to enter the UK’s world-leading creative design and engineering industries.”

Mr Heathcote added:

“QEH is delighted to invest in this important subject for the development for future engineers and designers.”
QEH’s annual Lizzies Awards celebrated pupil creativity with an inspiring showcase of short films based on the themes ‘Three Wishes’ and ‘Myths’.

Live theatre is here to stay at QEH, as pupils from Years 3 and 4 put on an incredible production of Jack and the Beanstalk last week in our theatre.

We are so happy we made the decision to send our son to QEH.  He has settled in quickly and enjoys everything the school has to offer in terms of academic studies and extra-curricular activities.  He goes to school happy and he comes home from school happy.
