Meet The QEH Kickboxing British Champion!

Ollie is a QEH ‘lifer’, as he joined QEH Juniors in Year 3, eleven years ago.  It’s been great to watch his development through the years, both on and off the pitch.

Will, Year 10, as skillful as he is determined, has become Kickboxing ‘Kick Light’ British Champion!

Grind now, shine later.

At 15 years old, Will has certainly had a crack at enduring his 10,000 hours of kickboxing, starting at the age of 5! Fuelled by a generational inheritance of ambition and sporting prowess, he has been able to reach incredible heights thus far, and something tells us he has only just scratched the surface.

Will trains at and represents GB Fit, a kickboxing gym in Horfield, Bristol. This is run by 7 time Kickboxing World Champion, and recipient of the British Empire Medal (BEM) for her services to kickboxing and young people in Bristol – Sharon Gill. He has also been selected for Team GB to represent Great Britain on multiple occasions!

Will fights in the ‘Older Cadet’ category of Point Fighting, Light Continuous Fighting, and most recently, Kick Light competitions, making a name for himself in the UK and across Europe fighting at 69kg or less. His most recent European venture saw him narrowly defeated in the quarter finals at the European Championships in Turkey where he represented Great Britain (with Team GB). A valuable experience, and something that seemingly lit a fire under him for what was to come – The Kickboxing British Championships.

Redemption at the GB Championships

24 February 2024 marked two big occasions; Will’s 15th Birthday, and The Kickboxing British Championship. After a disappointing end to the European Championships, Will and his coaches were energised for this occasion. He entered in all three disciplines, enduring multiple rounds of tough oppositions that day which were to eventually take their toll! He took home gold in the ‘Older Cadets sub 69kg Kick Light’ category with panache!

Unfortunately Will got medically discharged from Point Fighting, and Light Continuous Fighting due to injuring his nose after one too many knocks. The true price of glory! He could well have become National Champion in all three disciplines that day,  nevertheless a remarkable achievement and an outstanding piece of silverware for his trophy cabinet. What a way to spend your birthday!

We congratulate Will on his achievements, and wish him well in Budapest, Hungary where he will represent Great Britain in the World Championships this summer. We are sure he’ll bring home gold!

At QEH Junior School, learning goes beyond the classroom with a wide range of clubs in sports, arts, STEM, and more. With expert coaching and sessions throughout the day, every pupil can discover new passions and develop key skills.

Introducing Golf to QEH Junior School

The QEH community gathered at Bristol Cathedral to celebrate Charter Day, honouring the 1590 Royal Charter and the values that continue to shape the school. The service featured historic readings, powerful music, and reflections on inclusion, legacy, and unity across generations.

Live theatre is here to stay at QEH, as pupils from Years 3 and 4 put on an incredible production of Jack and the Beanstalk last week in our theatre.

Thank you for making Alec’s first week so enjoyable. He’s loved every day and has come home really happy. In particular, he’s said the other boys have made him feel really included and like he’s always been there.
