The Inaugural Old Elizabethans’ Football Tournament

A joyful day of football, sunshine, and reconnection as Old Elizabethans returned to Failand for our inaugural alumni tournament.

There are few things more rewarding than seeing the QEH community come together—and our first-ever Old Elizabethans’ Football Tournament, held this past weekend at Failand, was a shining example of just that. Under bright spring sunshine, the pitches came alive with laughter, competition, and genuine connection, as former pupils from across the years returned to take part in a day that was as much about friendship as it was about football.

From the moment the first whistle blew, the energy was electric. Nine teams, representing year groups from 2006 all the way through to 2027, battled it out in good spirits, bringing a mix of talent, determination, and humour to every match. The sidelines were filled with spectators cheering on friends and former classmates, with familiar faces reconnecting and new stories being shared.

The final saw 2025 (Year 13) emerge victorious after a nail-biting penalty shootout against 2021—a fittingly dramatic conclusion to a day packed with standout goals and spirited performances. 2023 secured third place, but every team brought something special to the event, from Darryl (2006–2011) showing veteran flair, to 2027 (Year 11) proving the future is very much bright.

Of course, no QEH event is complete without great hospitality—and the legendary hot dogs from the fantastic caterers certainly lived up to expectations! There were smiles all around as Old Elizabethans, staff, and supporters gathered to chat, reminisce, and soak up the sunshine together.

What made the day truly special was the sense of connection that still runs so strongly through the QEH community. Welcoming our Old Elizabethans back—some of whom we haven’t seen for many years—was a genuine joy. Whether they left in 2011 or just last summer, it was heartening to see how enduring the bonds of a QEH education can be.

We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who took part, supported, and helped organise the tournament. It was a day full of energy, laughter, and lasting memories—and we’re already looking forward to making it a new QEH tradition.

At QEH Junior School, learning goes beyond the classroom with a wide range of clubs in sports, arts, STEM, and more. With expert coaching and sessions throughout the day, every pupil can discover new passions and develop key skills.

The QEH community gathered at Bristol Cathedral to celebrate Charter Day, honouring the 1590 Royal Charter and the values that continue to shape the school. The service featured historic readings, powerful music, and reflections on inclusion, legacy, and unity across generations.

As well as being Head of Religion and Philosophy, Zak leads our digital vision. He was instrumental in developing our excellent online learning offering during lockdown, much to the relief of our parents, and is now leading the roll out of our school device programme.

On stage!

Year 11, 12 and 13 Art students went to the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford for a tour by Clare Cory, the Learning Officer for Secondary and Young People. It was her first tour since lockdown so she was particularly energised and enthusiastic with the group!

Thank you for making Alec’s first week so enjoyable. He’s loved every day and has come home really happy. In particular, he’s said the other boys have made him feel really included and like he’s always been there.
