Daniel Shines in Orienteering

Young orienteering talent Daniel proudly represented England at the prestigious Interland Cup in the Netherlands. This highly competitive annual event brings together top athletes from England, Belgium, France, Luxembourg, and the host nation, the Netherlands, to battle it out in a test of endurance, skill, and navigation.

Daniel’s selection for the England national orienteering team was no small feat. As one of only three boys chosen to compete in the Under-14 category, his inclusion in the squad is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and exceptional ability in the sport. Competing at an international level at such a young age is an incredible achievement, highlighting his potential for an exciting future in orienteering.

Daniel’s race was no easy task—he faced a demanding five kilometer course, meticulously planned to test both physical and mental endurance. Along the way, he had to locate fourteen control points, relying on his sharp navigational skills and quick decision-making. Orienteering is a sport that combines running with strategic map-reading, making it a true test of both brain and body. Daniel’s performance on the course demonstrated his exceptional talent in both aspects.

The England team, consisting of 48 athletes aged between 13 and 70, delivered a phenomenal performance across all categories.  It was a proud moment for the entire team, showcasing the strength and depth of England’s orienteering talent on the international stage.

Daniel’s participation and the team’s victory are moments of immense pride, not just for the athletes themselves but also for their coaches, supporters, and the wider orienteering community. Competing at this level requires dedication, discipline, and resilience, and Daniel has proven that he has what it takes to excel.
