Psychology Futures Day

Year 7 went on a team building trip to Osmington Bay PGL centre for a weekend of activities and friendships.

QEH were thrilled to host a Psychology Futures Day for our current Year 12 pupils and students from Cotham School, earlier this week.

Psychology is a popular subject at QEH and the purpose of the event was to give our pupils, and pupils in the wider Bristol area, an insight into which careers the subject could lead them to if they wish to pursue psychology. We invited guest speakers to QEH to give careers talks, and we had an exciting Keynote speech from Professor Nick Scott-Samuel.

We were delighted to welcome back one of our Old Elizabethans’, Emily Phillpotts, who studied psychology at QEH before her degree at Exeter, and she is now undertaking her Masters in Health Psychology.

Emily was joined by; Connor Grant, a Sports and Exercise Psychology Consultant and Maria Lucio, an Occupational Psychologist specialising in leadership assessment and development.

Emily, Connor, and Maria, each gave the psychology pupils a careers talk and shared their advice on the paths and opportunities available to psychology pupils for their careers or future studies.

Later in the afternoon, pupils were able to attend a keynote talk from Professor Nick Scott-Samuel. He spoke about the power of illusions, why and how they work and what this means for how we see the world. It was fascinating to look through the ways in which your eyes (or brains!) can be deceived. As well as the psychology pupils, this talk was also attended by students, parents and staff who were interested in Professor Nick Scott-Samuel’s work.

Thank you to all the staff who were involved in the organisation of this event, and a huge thank you to all the wonderful speakers for giving up their time to share some really insightful career advice with our pupils. We hope that all our visitors found the talks as valuable as our pupils have.

QEH pupils enjoyed an unforgettable cricket tour in Cape Town, competing fiercely, exploring iconic sights, and spotting wildlife at Aquila.

As well as being Head of Religion and Philosophy, Zak leads our digital vision. He was instrumental in developing our excellent online learning offering during lockdown, much to the relief of our parents, and is now leading the roll out of our school device programme.

QEH welcomes GCSE pupils back to school for results

On Friday 10 September we had the pleasure of welcoming 17 OEs back into school to talk to our Year 13 students, who are busy with their university applications.

Students Return For UCAS Afternoon

With our two sons being at this school over the past 13 years, we could not be happier with the amazing teachers, teaching and all the extra activities outside of the curriculum. Both boys have come away with outstanding results and aside from that as perfectly rounded, confident and well-mannered young men. We leave today so thanks to the school for everything, we shall miss these days.
